Angus Loughran shares his thoughts on the big golf betting events in 2009 exclusively to betrescue.com

There were 4 total outsiders who landed 2009 Major Championships in a dramatic year of Golf in The Majors with plenty of other players wondering what might have been notably Kenny Perry at Augusta and 1500/1 legend Tom Watson at Turnberry in July who came within inches of rewriting not just Golfing records but those of all sports with a truly heroic Runner Up to 175/1 American Stewart Cink who landed his first Major with play off defeat of Watson.

Augusta in April was dominated by the return of Tiger Woods who came back from injury in Febuary and won in thrilling style at Bay Hill in March,Woods was backed as though defeat was out of the question but this looked set to be Kenny Perrys Masters certainly after one of the shots of the year at 16th in Final round gave him a decisve advantage but Angel Cabrera of Argentina stole in and at 140/1 won a three way playoff with Chad Campbell and Kenny Perry.

The season never recovered for Perry but the trend of outsiders was set to continue in Junes rain affected US Open,a great effort here by Englands Ross Fisher and a comeback at 500/1 chance former World number 1 David Duval nearly gave us two great stories but Lucas Glover available at 225/1 took the title to the delight of all major Bookies.

Nobody could have predicted what happened at Turnberry in July it was 33/1 bar Tiger yet The World Number 1 MISSED THE CUT available at 16/1 and then 59 year old Tom Watson thrilled sports fans worldwide by staying in contention.

Englands Lee Westwood and Ross Fisher will both feel they should have won while Chris Wood my choice as young golfer of 2009 also had his chances but in the end Stewart Cink at 175/1 took his chance to take the title.

The PGA in August saw another huge pluge on Woods looking for Major Number 16 bookies were running for cover as Woods having won in Akron the week before was backed into 7/4 to land the seasons final Major but here Golfing history was made as Korean Yeng Yang at 200/1 gave Asia its First Major Winner with Woods having to settle for 2nd in a tremendous duel.

Rory Mcllroy finished tied 3rd with Lee Westwood and these two were to have a superb battle for The Inaugural Race To Dubai ending with Westwood claiming the seasons Final Title in Dubai in November at The New Greg Norman designed Earth Course with Mcllroy already a winner earlier in the season in Dubai Desert Classic finishing 2nd in Road To Dubai at only 20 atremendous effort.

Tiger Woods may have been a disappointment in The Majors but he won Fedex Cup on PGA Tour and is still World Number 1 by a distance while Paul Casey until injury halted his progress late in the season also had a superb season gainging his first PGA Tour Title and winning BMW and in Abu Dhabi 2009 was some year in Golf.

lLee Westwood hit new heights when landing Race to Dubai and World Golf Champioship last month it was not just his victory it was the manor of it and Skybet should be hit hard with their 10/1 on Westwood to 3 times or more on European Tour in 2010 if he continues like he did last month this should be well within his range.

Ross McGowan produced a performance of real quality to follow up his Madrid Masters win and can make 2010 European Ryder Cup side where Europe at Evens look worth a serious wager,October in Wales where it will probably be wet and windy will not suit the Americans.

Beware a wounded Tiger who has yet to deliver in Ryder Cup but took 5 points out of 5 in American Presidents Cup win at Harding Park San Francisco.

Woods will have noted US Open is at Pebble Beach and Open Championship is at St Andrews both venues he has has sauntered home in Major Championships. If ever Tiger is going to do Golfs Grand Slam 2010 will be it so odds of 66/1 although appear tight they may turn out to be value.

After 4 skinners in 2009 it might be the turn of the punters to bight back with Tiger in 2010 Sam Hutsby is a player to watch in 2010 he looks like going right to the top and will give you some great value on The European Tour in 2010 he is a player whom i think will eventually go right to the top.European Golf has some quality players at the moment which in Ryder Cup Year must excite European Captain Colin Montgomorie.
