Champions Manchester United visit the Emirates in this afternoon’s eagerly awaiting clash. Chris Hutcheon reckons Arsenal will have the edge.
There’s little doubt that what pundits assumed would be a two-horse race for the Premiership crown has turned into a three-way tussle and the third side in the mix, Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal, entertain Manchester United in a clash that could tell us much about the destination of the top flight trophy.
The Gunners are Paddy Power’s 7/5 favourites for the points while Sir Alex Ferguson’s men are priced at 2/1 by bet365 and Stan James post 9/4 against a draw; a price sure to be nibbled at in the build-up to this potential cracker.
The champions have already lost on the road to rivals Chelsea and Liverpool and have also been turned over by Fulham and neighbours City, in the Carling Cup in recent weeks, either side of a somewhat fortunate draw at Birmingham. This away form doesn’t inspire much confidence and so it would appear that the bookies have called this correctly.
The shrewd will stick with the hosts then, who are 3/1 courtesy of William Hill to edge it by a one-goal margin.
A reverse of United’s 2-1 home win in the corresponding fixture at Old Trafford, also catches the eye at 17/2 with Partybets and the pivotal figure for Wenger’s troops could once again be influential Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas.
The Gunners skipper is rated by Ladbrokes at 15/2 to open the scoring but with in-form United striker Wayne Rooney (6/1, Victor Chandler) a real threat in that department, Fabregas should be considered at 9/4 with Betfred to find the net at any stage, in a clash that looks a banker at 8/11 (bet365) to produce goals from both teams.
