FOOTBALL BETTING: Raith have already accounted for the dark blue half of Dundee in their gritty FA Cup run but at odds of 15/2 with Totesport, they aren’t expected to make it a Tayside double
Chris Hutcheon previews Sunday’s Scottish FA Cup semi final as Raith Rovers and Dundee United go head-to-head at Hampden Park at 3pm.
Dundee United are the form team in the SPL, having won their last four in all competitions and not suffered a defeat since going down 1-0 at Parkhead eight matches ago. Subsequently, they are William Hill’s strong favourites at 4/9 to book their place in the final and although it may take Pat Fenlon’s men a while to exert their authority against plucky Rovers, their extra quality should tell in the end.
Nevertheless, the Division One outfit can initially make life very uncomfortable indeed for their top flight opponents and it would be no surprise to see them hold United in the first period, ensuring the contest is goalless at the break (11/4, bet365).
Backing the opening at 10/11 with Paddy Power to arrive after the 24th minute is a steal then while the more ambitious can back the Terrors at 13/2 (Victor Chandler) to bag the only or alternatively tackle Ladbrokes’ 7/2 for Fenlon’s charges to nick it after a level opening 45 minutes.
Goals could be at a premium at Hampden given that Dundee United have kept three clean sheets in four and they can prevail without conceding here, a result rated by Totesport at 6/5. With four in his last five meanwhile, Jon Daly is the man that can fire the Terrors to the final; he’s 10/3 at Partybets to break the deadlock and along with it, break Rovers’ hearts.
