RUGBY UNION BETTING: Live on SkySports 3: Sat 15.30 & Sun 15.00: It’s Ireland v France in the Heineken Cup; Toulouse v Leinster followed on Sunday by Biarritz v Munster. Compare Heineken Cup Odds.
All four of the quarter final ties were won by the favourites; Munster and Leinster from Ireland, Biarritz and Toulouse from France.
England’s hope Northampton made a good account of themselves at Munster but were over-powered 33-19 in the end.
The semi final clashes are scheduled for Saturday 1st May and Sunday 2nd May respectively; Toulouse v Leinster and Biarritz v Munster.
Toulouse are home favs for the Saturday clash, 2/5 with 888sport. Leinster can be backed at 3/1 with Sportingbet but Leinster fans will be dismayed to hear that fly-half Jonathan Sexton is set to miss the match after sustaining a broken jaw in the quarter final. Some good news though in the form of Brian O’Driscoll as he returns from a knee injury.
Stan James are going with a handicap of -7 about Toulouse at 1/1, a generous offer in a match which Toulouse, with home advantage, should prosper in.
In the other semi final, giants Muster are away at Biarritz. Biarritz have not really performed in the Heineken Cup since making the final in 2006, in which they lost to Munster, but will be massively buoyed by the news that Munster captain Paul O’Connell has not recovered from injury. Betfred have 11/8 about Biarritz, Boylesports 4/5 on Munster. To be fair to the bookies, that is a good price for Munster who look on paper to be the stronger team and should dominate a Biarritz side who have stuttered their way through the top14 season and haven’t set the Heineken Cup alight, despite getting this far. 4/5 is too good to turn down.
