CRICKET BETTING: Live On Sky Sports 1: Thu 16.00 England are looking reach their first World Cup final since 1992 but first have to face Sri Lanka in the Semi’s. Compare odds and bet at the best prices.
The first semi final of the Twenty20 World Cup gets underway today at about 4:30 pm and England have the unusual experience of playing rather than spectating. Sri Lanka on the other hand have plenty of experience at this stage of the competition, finalists of the Twenty20 World Cup in 2009 and finalists of the one-day World Cup in 2007.
England, due to their form, roll in as 4/5 favs with William Hill. England have had a fine tournament so far with 4 wins from 5 games and good performances from a number of players including Pietersen, Morgan, Kieswetter and Swann. There is a sense of depth to the team, and belief, that has allowed them to progress through the Super 8′s as 3/1 2nd favourites for the tournament (Totesport). Pietersen should figure after jetting back from England but will have precious little preparation time. Swann can continue to exploit the surface at St Lucia and can be top wicket taker for England at 10/3 with Blue Square.
Sri Lanka, 11/10 with SkyBet to win, have shown top quality at times and have been left a bit short at others. Their constant has been Jayawardene, whose 292 runs have aided Sri Lanka immeasurably, especially when the rest of the team failed to perform against New Zealand in the opener. Now, however, captain Sangakkara and to an extent Dilshan are coming out of their shells, now the games have become ‘serious’. Sangakkara can be backed at 7/2 with Betfred to top knock for the Sri Lankans after 114 in 2 matches in the Super 8 stage. Wickets have come from an astonishing 10 sources, making a bowling prediction difficult to say the least but spin will probably feature to peg England back.
There will be a lot of ‘patriotic’ money on England today but the sensible bet would be to back Sri Lanka. They have the late tournament stages experience, 2 or 3 batsmen who are fearsome on their day and a more capable and flexible spinning contingent. England are very likely to lose an early wicket and it is down to the middle order to create a competitive score. The large boundaries make under 31.5 boundaries at 5/6 (Will Hills) an attractive bet.
