Robin Soderling is clear 5/4 fav with Betfred at the Swedish Open and is duly named top seed. Soderling reached the final of the French Open and the quarters at Wimbledon and both times he was thwarted by Rafa Nadal. The imperious Spaniard is not present in Sweden and Soderling can get himself a tournament win. His main challenge is again Spanish, in the form of Nicolas Almagro (5/1 Bet365) and Fernando Verdasco (11/2 Stan James). Luckily for Soderling, he faces neither in his half of the draw and seed no. 3, David Ferrer, a 7/1 shot with Skybet, is Soderling’s main worry on his route to the final.
Over in Stuttgart at the Mercedes Cup, Nikolay Davydenko is 9/4 fav with William Hill, well ahead of the nearest challenger, 2nd seed Jurgen Melzer at 11/2 with Skybet. Davydenko has been well short of his best of late, and the 6th ranked player will need to up his game to reach the final and also overcome potential semi final opponent Gael Monfils of France (currently ranked 17th). Monfils has been a little out of sorts himself and is 8/1 with Betfred. One to watch perhaps is Phillip Kohlschreiber who has been performing to a decent standard, losing to top 10 opponents for the last 3 tournaments. The German is 9/1 with Ladbrokes and can go well with a home crowd.
