4/5 Rangers Face Stiff Test At Hibs

Football Live: ESPN: 12:00 Sat & SS4 Sun 12:15
Betrescue’s David Russell takes his weekly look at the SPL including the televised games between Hamilton and Hearts and Hibs and Rangers

Champions Rangers face a stiff task when they travel to Easter Road on Sunday where Hibs kick off as Ladbrokes’ 4/1 underdogs. By contrast, Walter Smith’s men are considered a 4/5 shot according to Stan James, decent odds considering they’ve beaten Hibs eight times (and drawn 3) of their last 11 meetings.

Kenny Miller was back in the groove at Ibrox, scoring the first goal, and is 4/1 with William Hill to follow-up at Easter Road where Rangers are unbeaten at in their last 10 visits.

Celtic (1/5, Totesport) face a less daunting task when hosting St Mirren (16/1, Betdaq).

St Mirren will be clutching to their 2009 Scottish Cup win for inspiration, but have to break a league hoodoo that stretches to 1989/90. Anyone expecting a goalfest may need to reconsider as four of their last seven encounters at Parkhead yielded a maximum of two goals – Jaxx.com post 11/10 about there being fewer than three on Sunday.

Hearts (6/4, bet365) head to Hamilton (7/4, 888sport) on Saturday lunchtime in what promises to be a tight affair with perhaps only one goal in it – the margin of victory in four of their last six clashes. Hamilton are 7/1 (Victor Chandler) to win 1-0, while Hearts are 3/1 (Paddy Power) to enjoy a single goal margin of victory.

Motherwell (8/5 Partybets) travel to Kilmarnock (6/4, Betfred) on Sunday following their European tie on Thursday and any fatigue in the camp could present an opportunity to Killie. In fact, before last season, Kilmarnock boasted a good record against Motherwell where they were undefeated in 10 of their 14 clashes.

Aberdeen walloped Hamilton 4-0 on Saturday, but things will be tougher at St Johnstone (6/4, Betfred), who proved difficult to break down having defended well against Hearts. Bet365’s 11/2 quote about Aberdeen winning following a drawn first period bares closer inspection.

Another price that stands out is the 11/2 with Totesport about Inverness winning at Dundee United (4/6, Victor Chandler) on Sunday.

Caley have lost only one of their last four league matches at Tannadice and at 12/1 (Paddy Power) to win 1-0, they look a tad frothy. History also suggests that this particular encounter will be close as there have been eight draws between the pair since 2004/05, during which time, the 1-1 scoreline popped up on seven occasions. Partybets chalk 6/1 against it finishing 1-1
