Malinga and Matthews masterminded the huge 9th wicket stand for Sri Lanka as they came from the brink to take victory in Melbourne from well over 100 runs in arrears.
This is exactly what Australia didn’t need as they try to create some sort of form before the Ashes but you get the feeling there will be some repurcussions from that performance. Australia played reasonably well in the large and they should build on that to win this one.
Hussey proved his doubters wrong and now it’s Watson’s turn – the opener is 4/1 with Totesport to top score though Ponting returns and will look to hit a captain’s knock to inspire his team – he is also 4/1, this time with Boylesports.
The return of Ponting is pretty huge for the hosts and they are even a consideration to take the series at 6/4 with Stan James. They must win the next 2 ODI’s to achieve this.
