The Daily Star’s Chief Football writer, Danny Fullbrook gives his verdict on Sunday’s televised matches in the Premier League.
Arsenal v Newcastle, Live on Skysports 1, Sun 13.30:
The early game on Sunday is Arsenal (3/10 William Hill) against Newcastle (13/1 Betdaq). Despite Newcastle’s derby day destruction of Sunderland last weekend when they won 5-1, earlier in the week they had been destroyed 4-0 by Arsenal in the Carling Cup. There are some teams which just can’t cope with the Gunners style of quickfire rapid football, and for the moment I think that Newcastle are one of them.
On that basis, after Arsenal struggled to kill off West Ham last week, I think this game will be a walk in the park and I predict them to win 3-0, which is 8/1 at 888sport.
Liverpool v Chelsea, Live on Skysports 1, Sun 16.00:
Liverpool against Chelsea is the stand-out game this weekend on television, but it is a shame for both sets of fans that Joe Cole is unlikely to play. He will have wanted to come up against his old team, but injury looks like it has ruled him out.
Liverpool’s fortunes have changed in the last few weeks with two wins in the league and an impressive home victory over Napoli in the Europa League, they are 3/1 with Boylesports to win this one. But Chelsea (11/10 William Hill) are a powerful side to take on, and even with Florent Malouda on the bench and Frank Lampard missing, they will be tough to beat.
Nicolas Anelka will be looking to score against his old side (6/5 anytime goalscorer, bet365), but for me I think this will be a 1-1 draw (6/1 Skybet) which will dent Chelsea’s hopes at the top of the Premier League because I just feel Roy Hodgson will set his side out to defend against them.
