Since winning the European Championship and World Matchplay in the summer of 2010, Taylor had suffered from a dip in form but brought home the Players Championship Finals last week at a very decent 5/2. That was nice proof that Phil Taylor is back up and running for the new Premier League campaign, though he did have to battle hard against Gary Anderson.
Anderson takes his bow in this year’s Premier League and the in-form Scot is bet365′s 11/2 2nd fav. He reached, and lost, both the World Champs and Players Champs finals recently and can translate some of this form into the 2011 Premier League – certainly the 2/5 (888sport) about him to finish in the top 4 is a solid shout, if a bit short.
Adrian Lewis is a player probably best watched for now – the 7/1 shot (Paddy Power) only came 7th in last year’s league but has since won the World Champs only to fail badly in the Players Championships.
Raymond van Barneveld is always a popular bet and at 16/1 (Sportingbet) looks large for this year’s event. He could only muster 6th last year but went on to reveal serious family related issues which could have only hampered his game. Barney will certainly be looking to return to the form that saw him reach 4 consecutive semi finals and 7/4 (888sport) about him to make the top 4 is a good bet.
Boylesports are offering 11/8 that there is a 9 dart finish at any point during the Premier League, and if Barney is back on song, that is well worth taking.
As for Thursday’s darts, Gary Anderson will look to get off to a winning start at 5/4 (Betdaq) against Simon Whitlock and Taylor is worth backing at 4/6 (Stan James) as you’ll unlikely see that price again.
are offering 14/1 that all 4 favourites oblige in tomorrow’s opening night clashes for the Premier League of darts. That’s Taylor, Wade, Anderson and Van Barneveld all to win at 14/1.
