The Daily Star’s Chief Football writer, Danny Fullbrook, gives his verdict on this weekend’s televised matches in the Premier League.
Birmingham v West Brom, Sat 5th Mar, 12.45, Skysports 2
The Midlands derby between Birmingham and West Brom will be nasty and hard fought. Birmingham are 6/4 favs at YouWin.com and I fancy a home but only after a cagey opening half.
A draw at half time followed by a Birmingham win is my bet, 5/1 with William Hill.
Roberto Martinez’s team has a habit of playing well, but not well enough as they have been losing a lot of games. Life will not get much better against City who are just 2/5 at Betfred.
Whatever front 3 they put out will be too much for Wigan while I do not think they will be effected by the Kolo Toure events. I fancy a 3-0 home win for City, 9/1 at Betdaq.
Liverpool v Man Utd, Sun 6th Mar, 13.30, Skysports 1
There is no other place to start on Sunday other than Liverpool against Manchester United.
It is another massive showdown which will have an impact on the title race. Having dropped 3 points against Chelsea United will be desperate for a positive result, 13/8 at , because Arsenal are close on their heels, 4 points behind with a game in hand.
The main problem for Fergie is that Vidic is suspended after being sent off against Chelsea, and Ferdinand is injured. If Andy Carroll does start this could be a massive problem, and with news on Merseyside I think he will.
Wolves v Tottenham, Sun 6th Mar, 16.00, Skysports 1
Spurs will know that they have to beat Wolves away to keep pace with Chelsea who are contesting the fourth champions league place with them, a win for Redknapp’s men is 6/4 at William Hill.
But they have been up and down away from home while Wolves are fighting for their lives. This will be a tough match which is why I think it will end up as a frustrating draw which will help neither side in the run-in (12/5, Betfred).
Blackpool v Chelsea, Mon 7th Mar, 20.00, Skysports 1
Chelsea are lucky enough to be able to sit back and watch the whole of the weekend unfold in front of them.
The Blues eventually found their form against United, but they are still too far back to even think about winning the title.
But beating Blackpool (1/3, 888sport) will be an easy job and they will probably do it 3-0, available at 15/2 with Sportingbet, and I fancy Torres to score at some point in this game (5/6, bet365), at last.
