Live on Eurosport: Sat 10.00: The World Snooker Championship breaks off on April 16th, the Daily Star’s Kevin Francis previews.
Betfred.com World Championship, Saturday April 16th to Monday April 30th, Crucible Theatre, Sheffield. BBC and Eurosport daily.
Reigning champion NEIL ROBERTSTON has warned his rivals that the best is yet to come and, with odds of 10/1 on offer at Skybet and Betfair, he certainly has a chance. After all, the 29-year-old Aussie has never been one to lack confidence, saying: “I still haven’t made the most of my natural ability and I’m good enough to win multiple world titles.”
Three-times winner RONNIE O’SULLIVAN arrives at the Crucible at the crossroads with the growing possibility that a poor showing could see the frequently disillusioned 35-year-old calling it a day. It all depends on which ‘Rocket’ turns up – the moody, couldn’t-care-less one or the sleeves-rolled-up player the crowds love. The fact that he is 8/1 with Betfred and Stan James tells its story but I am sure there will be plenty of takers.
World number three MARK WILLIAMS is a two-times winner and the first-ever left-handed champ is 17/2 with Boylesports. A better bet, though, could be China’s most successful player of all time, DING JUNHUI, who gets a quote of 9/1 from Bluesquare, 888sport and Unibet.
SUGGESTED BET: My vote goes to JOHN HIGGINS, now back at his best after suspension following match-fixing allegations. He won the Welsh Open where he defeated Stephen Maguire and will be bidding for his fourth Crucible win.
