REMEMBER NOW (3.40) looks well treated in the feature Totescoop Swinton Hurdle at Haydock on Saturday. Nicky Henderson’s improving five-year-old is on a hat-trick after his latest comfortable success at Ayr’s Scottish Grand National meeting. Earlier, Remember Now, running in the JP McManus silks, had pipped the rapidly improving Tatispout (very easy winner since) at Stratford and my selection is a massive 15lb better off here. With Tony McCoy in the saddle, Remember Now must go well off a nice 10st 12lb racing weight.
It’s Classic trials day at Lingfield where Richard Hannon has prospects of landing a double. MEASURING TIME (3.10) contests the Totepool Derby Trial on the back of a fine run behind Godolphin’s progressive colt Genius Beast in the Bet365 Trial at Sandown last month. Measuring Time has finished runner-up four times since winning his first two starts as a juvenile and, with the Hannon team finally finding their stride after a sluggish start to the season, he is fancied to resume winning ways.
DATE WITH DESTINY (2.40) is back racing against her own sex in the Totepool Oaks Trial on the back of a respectable effort in midfield when contesting the hot Tattersalls Millions at Newmarket.
A monster field goes to post as usual for the competitive Totesport Victoria Cup at Ascot and Scottish raider HAWKEYETHENOO (3.25) can gain quick compensation for a desperately unlucky run at Newmarket last weekend. William Buick’s path was blocked on several occasions but Hawkeyethenoo managed to grab fourth spot with a late burst of speed when eventually seeing some daylight. Jim Goldie’s handicapper is stepped up to seven furlongs, but stamina shouldn’t be an issue as he won over a mile as a three-year-old.
At Thirsk’s evening meeting, TOMBELLINI (8.30) can successfully bring the curtain down on a frenetic day’s racing. David Nicholls’ four-year-old fairly scooted clear at Newcastle in midweek and can defy a 6lb penalty.
