Impressive Haydock maiden winner Wild Coco has been heavily backed to land the Listed Aphrodite Stakes at Newmarket this afternoon, but Meeznah (2:35) has the strongest form in the race and is a viable each-way alternative.
The four-year-old has only won a maiden herself from nine starts, but was second past the post in last year’s Oaks and her recent reappearance, also at Haydock, was pretty encouraging.
The daughter of Dynaformer finished third to two highly progressive fillies and the second, Vita Nova, would have won the Lancashire Oaks a fortnight ago but for her saddle slipping. Fourth home Crystal Capella won the Princess Of Wales’s Stakes at the July meeting, so the form looks solid.
Market Rasen stages their big summer jumps fixture today and Rajnagan (2:05), who has done us a couple of favours lately most recently last Sunday, is taken to complete the five-timer in the opening Totescoop6 Summer Hurdle.
This represents another step up in class, but a 6lb penalty for last week’s easy success mightn’t be enough to halt the winning sequence and he travels like a horse that could well be up to contesting better races such as this, provided the ground remains quick.
With 17 runners he is another who can be backed each-way, as is Kangaroo Court (3:45) who looked over-priced at 16/1 overnight with SkyBet.
The Totesport.com Summer Plate looks ultra-competitive, but the seven-year-old looked to have a very bright future as a chaser the season before last and has returned over hurdles of late, showing he is no back number.
He effortlessly won his first two over fences, on his favoured quick ground, and went on to finish seventh to Sizing Europe in the Arkle. A faller on both subsequent starts over fences, it is hoped that Emma Lavelle has worked the oracle on the schooling ground, as he is potentially the class act in this line-up.
