A man from Bolton landed a fantastic £294,265.65 with Ladbrokes on Saturday after staking £12 on 7 horses, including Danedream.
Tha massive win included the 20/1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Danedream which he claimed was “a certainty”. On a day when the bookies were celebrating some of their best ever results at the course, the punter, who has requested anonymity, also backed three other British winners at the Paris course including 14/1 sprint winner Tangerine Trees.
“I would have been the only man in Bolton cheering. I’m a big football fan but I reckon I might stick to the horses for the time being,” the Bolton Wanderers fan admitted after his side’s crushing home defeat to Chelsea.
He added: “I wouldn’t say I’m a religious form student but I knew Danedream was a certainty. I’d been waiting all week to back it.”
Whilst the British raiders were totting up the punters’ haul in Paris ‘The Real Article’ cruised to victory in Tipperary and minutes later Painted Sky did the business in Uttoxeter at 8/1. Shu Lewis was the final winner of the day at the Irish course at odds of 7/2.
Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “Every shock result in Paris was being greeted with moans from the punters and cheers from us. One man back in England was jumping for joy every time an outsider crossed the line in front and we take our hat off to his incredible win.”
He added: “He’s lived the dream of every small staking weekend punter and is proof nothing is impossible.”
