Fergie’s Sunday Selections

Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Sunday; One Term; 1:15 Hereford and Rubi Light; 2:05 Punchestown. Compare odds.

Punchestown stages the Grade 1 John Durkan Memorial Chase on Sunday and Rubi Light (2:05) is taken to land the spoils under Andrew Lynch, who enjoyed big race success last weekend aboard Sizing Europe and Voler La Vedette.

The six-year-old was a real improver last term and rounded off the campaign when third to Albertas Run in the Ryanair Chase on ground that was far quicker than ideal.

2m4f on testing ground brings out the best in the selection, who is usually the soundest of jumpers, so his final fence fall on his seasonal return came as a bit of a shock.

Prior to that he had jumped for fun and had the aforementioned Sizing Europe well and truly cooked. A reproduction of that effort would be good enough here, though there is scope for further improvement after just eight chase starts and he can mark himself down as a top-class young chaser with victory here.

Rebecca Curtis and AP McCoy are always worth noting when teaming up and the pair can land the Toteexacta Maiden Hurdle at Hereford with smart bumper performer One Term (1:15).

Beaten by Top Of The Range (easy winner over hurdles recently) in a Ffos Las bumper in April, he gave Knock A Hand (two from two over hurdles since) a 2½ length beating at Chepstow, before landing a Listed contest at Cheltenham where he had the high-class Montbazon back in third.

His bumper form is rock solid and he will be very hard to beat if jump proficiently on his hurdling bow. He was trading at 5/4, albeit to small amounts, on the exchanges on Saturday evening.

Sunday’s selections:
1:15 Hereford: One Term; (4/5 Bet365)
2:05 Punchestown: Rubi Light (5/2 Ladbrokes)
