It’s All About Araucaria Today

Paul Ferguson takes a trip down south to bring us one selection today; Araucaria in the 14.20 at Exeter. Compare odds.

Firstly, apologies for the fact I put up Colour Squadron each-way yesterday, as Philip Hobbs’ charge only reached a high of 10/3. I thought he would have been nearer the 9/2 mark first show and certainly nowhere near his starting price of 7/4. At least Broadbackbob drifted to 5/2 and, most importantly, the pair both won.

Anyway, onwards and upwards and sadly today’s action is nowhere near as interesting as yesterday’s informative card from Newbury.

There are a couple of smart sorts on show at Exeter, however, in the shape of Royal Charm and Araucaria (2:20).

The former is unbeaten in four starts at the track and should beat his three rivals if on song, but he fell just 13 days ago, so preference at short odds is for the Lisa Hales owned mare, who makes her debut for Donald McCain this afternoon.

The seven-year-old was a high-class bumper performer in Ireland a couple of seasons back and was useful over timber last term, winning her first two before faring well in Listed and graded class company.

She looks in a different league to today’s opposition, so a clear round should suffice and the tissue price of 8/11 would appear more than fair (she was trading around 8/13 to small amounts on the exchanges last night).

Thursday’s selection:
2:20 Exeter Araucaria
