The Daily Star’s Chief Football writer, Danny Fullbrook, gives his verdict on the three TV Premier League fixtures on Sunday and Monday.
Newcastle v QPR, Sun 15th Jan, 13.30, Skysports 1
There are no Saturday TV games this weekend which is a bit of a surprise so it is all onto Sunday and the game against Newcastle aganst QPR whnich now carries an extra weight about it.
The reality is that it is Mark Hughes’ first game back in charge of a team since this summer. It is probably a big game now and all of the spotlight must be on QPR, who are 4/1 to win with Stan James, and Hughes himself whose first team selection will be interesting. I imagine he will go with a very similar line-up.
But if they lose then they could start life under Hughes in the relegation zone which is a tough job. And lose is exactly what I think will happen. Newcastle have been great this season at home and even without Ba they will be too hot to handle for Hughes, back them at 5/6 with William Hill and to win 2-1, 8/1 with Ladbrokes.
Swansea v Arsenal, Sun 15th Jan, 16.00, Skysports 1
I don’t think it will be the same for the away team in the next game when Swansea play Arsenal, the latter 5/6 to win with BetVictor.
Thierry Henry is the man of the moment for them after the way that he scored agaisnt Leeds United in the FA Cup game.
But he could be on the bench with Robin van Persie getting the nod because the last thing that needs to happen is the Dutchman to be knocked out of his stride. They can’t afford to let that happen so Henry will just have to wait, but he might get a short run out because i think that Arsenal will win 2-0 (15/2, Skybet) with Van persie scoring first – 3/1 with Boylesports.
Wigan v Man City, Mon 16th Jan, 20.00, Skysports 1
Manchester City will be playing catch up again on Monday night when they play Wigan. It must be a pain to keep trying to catch up all the time because Spurs could draw level with them as early as Saturday.
But this should be no problem for Man City, who are just 2/5 with Totesport, and it should be the perfect opportunity for City to get back on track. Again I see this as a 2-0 away win, a 7/1 chance with Ladbrokes, with Sergio Aguero the man likely to make the breakthrough at 7/2 (bet365)
