Back Havingotascoobydo

Paul Ferguson has one selections for us on New Years Day; Havingotascoobydo in the Cheltenham 2.10. Compare odds.

The Channel 4 cameras roll on to Cheltenham for their New Year’s Day fixture and, with Saturday night likely to be a heavy one, I thought it best to get the day’s selection out of the way.

Again, the novice chase could be the best race on the card where Sonofvic bids to go one better than his debut second behind the top-class Grands Crus. The drop back in trip puts me off slightly and I’ve long had this race in mind for Champion Court, who has struggled to get home over further of late.

But, Invictus and Solix are both two from two over fences, Saint Are is surely better than he has shown to date and Sybarite has races in him over the larger obstacles, so it’s a race to watch and savour for me.

Champion Court isn’t the only smart novice chaser in Martin Keighley’s yard and his Havingotascoobydo (2:10) is fancied to land the Bet With Your Mobile At Victor Chandler Handicap Chase.

Backing horses from out of the handicap isn’t something I’m keen on doing too often, but on this occasion I’m prepared to make an exception as the seven-year-old has been crying out for a step up to this sort of trip and promises to be well suited by the strong pace.

His jumping has improved as the season has gone on and was trading at 13/2 with the sponsors on Friday evening. He, therefore, represents a bit more value than Saturday’s selection, though it is hoped there is a bit of 7/1 available on the morning of the race.

I’d like to take this opportunity to wish all our readers a Happy New Year and let’s hope for a profitable 2012.

Sunday’s selection:
2:10 Cheltenham Havingotascoobydo (best morning line odds / 13/2 VC and bet365)
