Hurricane Fly stands at 9/4 for the Champion Hurdle with Stan James after Ruby Walsh’s comments on air earned him a £100 bet.
After saying live on Racing UK on Sunday that “he’d love to take a bit of 11/4” about Hurricane Fly, Ruby Walsh’s wish has been fulfilled by the race sponsors.
StanJames.com spokesman Rory Jiwani says, “We had to put our money where our mouths were on this occasion so we’ve given Ruby a £100 bet on Hurricane Fly at 11/4 for the charity of his choice. He’s chosen Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin, Dublin so they’ll no doubt be hoping he retains his title.
“Punters have been very keen to back Hurricane Fly this afternoon after Willie Mullins said he was ‘absolutely delighted’ with his hurdling star’s workout at Leopardstown. We initially trimmed the champ in to 5/2 but the money has continued to pour in and we’ve been forced to cut him to 9/4 for the big race on day one of the Cheltenham Festival.”
