Bright New Dawn 20/1 @ Naas

Paul Ferguson has one selections for us on Sunday, Bright New Dawn in the 15:25 at Naas; Compare odds and bet

As usual for a Sunday the pick of the action comes from Ireland and this week Naas stages an interesting card, which contains a trio of Grade 2s.

Hat-trick seeking Rathlin and smart hurdler Shot From The Hip lock horns in the novice chase, whilst the improving Seabass continues his rise through the chasing ranks in the PaddyPower.com Chase. We should learn plenty more about Ted Walsh’s nine-year-old today as he drops in trip to take on the high-class Tranquil Sea.

Even the concluding bumper offers much interest with the future in mind, with Willie Mullins’s The Paparrazi Kid looking a smart prospect when winning by 15 lengths on debut in December.

But for the day’s bet, it maybe worth taking a chance on hurdling debutant Bright New Dawn (3:25) in the PaddyPower.com Novice Hurdle, despite the fact that the race looks a very warm contest to start off in.

Dessie Hughes’s five-year-old has caught the eye on both starts in bumpers and, given his physique, he looks the type to improve now he begins his jumping career.

The son of Presenting was given plenty to do when chasing home Champion Bumper hopeful Venture Capital on debut at Fairyhouse when he finished 3 lengths ahead of Thomas Edison.

That rival reversed form when the pair met again over Christmas, but the selection again showed plenty of promise finishing just behind Champion Bumper favourite Champagne Fever.

His bumper form reads really well, so it is interesting that connections are quickly turning his attentions to hurdling, especially at such a late stage in the season and, though he looks one for the future, Hughes wouldn’t pitch him in at this level unless he thought a lot of him.

At 14/1 overnight, he looks worth taking a chance on each-way, despite the fact the race looking a very warm contest indeed.

Sunday’s selection:
3:25 Naas: Bright New Dawn (each-way 20/1 Coral.co.uk)
