Paul Ferguson has two more selections on Thursday from York; Mijhaar (3.00) and Cape Tribulation (4.45). Compare odds and bet.
Though he was beaten at short odds in a handicap when last seen last July Mijhaar (3:00) remains a high-class prospect for Roger Varian and can make a winning reappearance for the second season running.
The Shirocco colt bolted up at Haydock a year ago, before finishing fourth to Nathaniel at Royal Ascot, after which Fulgur beat him in a valuable contest at Newmarket’s July meeting.
Judged on last year’s form 1m2f appears his optimum trip, but he’s headstrong and not short of pace, so the drop down to a mile shouldn’t be too much of an inconvenience on a track like York.
Any overnight rain will further aid his cause and the selection could be backed at a best price 3/1 with Hills last night.
The concluding 2m2f handicap can go the way of joint top-weight Cape Tribulation (4:45) who hasn’t been seen on the Flat for some time, but has been at the top of his game over hurdles lately, winning at both Cheltenham and Aintree (latterly off the lofty mark of 150).
Malcolm Jefferson’s eight-year-old is unexposed on the level, especially over this sort of trip, and the dual bumper winner can continue his fine run of form by translating his hurdles form to the summer code.
Available at 5/1 with Ladbrokes on Wednesday evening, the son of Hernando is sure to be popular after his recent exertions over hurdles.
Thursday’s selections:
3:00 York Mijhaar
4:45 York Cape Tribulation
