Paul Ferguson has two selections at York today; Newfangled in the 14.30 and The Fugue in the 15.40. Compare odds and bet.
The mighty Frankel lit up the Knavesmire yesterday with a scintillating display in the Juddmonte International on his first start over 10 furlongs and the quality of the card on the whole was extremely high.
William Buick was at his best aboard Thought Worthy, dictating matters to land the Great Voltigeur for his boss John Gosden and the pair can strike with a big race double this afternoon.
Firstly Newfangled (2:30) is fancied to maintain her 100% record in the Group 2 Lowther Stakes, a race in which Russian Rhythm and Flashy Wings have been successful in recent years at odds-on, and it could be that the selection goes off as short today.
An impressive winner on debut at Newmarket in June, the daughter of New Approach followed up in emphatic style in the Group 3 Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot. Already as low as 6/1 with a couple of firms for next year’s 1,000 Guineas, the only concern here is the fact that quick ground is an unknown.
Both victories to date have come on soft, but her sire won the Group 1 National Stakes on fast ground as a two-year-old and she can confirm herself as the leading juvenile filly by scoring here. She was trading at Evs with Hills on Wednesday evening.
Impressive Nassau Stakes winner The Fugue (3:40) can complete the double for the pair in the Group 1 Darley Yorkshire Oaks, a race Gosden won in 2009 with Dar Re Mi.
A hugely impressive winner of the Musidora Stakes here in May, she looked an unlucky third in the Oaks at Epsom, before running slightly below par in the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot.
The ground was too soft for her that day according to Buick and she readily bounced back under Richard Hughes at Glorious Goodwood, where she recorded her first Group 1 success over 1m2f.
Runner-up Timepiece did the form no harm when running well behind Snow Fairy in France on Sunday and, with the step back up in trip not an issue on quick ground, she is fancied to make it two from two at the track.
Available at 15/8 with Boylesports early last night, she may have most to fear from French raider Shareta, though she needs to prove she can handle conditions as quick as they will be today.
