£10 Double pays £103 profit

Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Saturday; Strong Suit in the 3.05 at Newbury and Cause Of Causes in the 4.15 at Perth. Compare odds and bet.

Richard Hannon has won Newbury’s Hungerford Stakes twice in the past decade, most recently with the high-class Paco Boy in 2008, and the local trainer can take the Group 2 again this afternoon with Strong Suit (3:05).

The chestnut won three Group events over this 7f trip last season, the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot, the Lennox Stakes at Glorious Goodwood and the Challenge Stakes at Newmarket, and a return to that form would see him very hard to beat.

Well beaten on both starts this season, in the Queen Anne at Ascot and in the July Cup last time, when the heavy ground was against him. With that in mind, it is hoped the rain stays away overnight.

Ryan Moore takes over in the saddle from Richard Hughes this afternoon and, having won at the track on debut at two, the four-year-old is worth backing at 9/4 with Ladbrokes.

As well as the decent Flat cards elsewhere, there are a couple of interesting National Hunt cards at Market Rasen and Perth, with the last named track staging a fine renewal for the second running of the Summer Champion Hurdle.

Irish raider Cause Of Causes (4:15) gave us a real fright when pushing out ante-post selection Rebel Fitz all the way to the line in the Galway Hurdle last time, form that reads particularly well here.

Prior to that Gordon Elliott’s four-year-old did well to win at Downpatrick despite a serious blunder at the final flight. He travelled well in the Galway Hurdle before splitting the high-class winner and Captain Cee Bee in third and, despite having flopped here in May (albeit over 3m½f), he is capable of landing a big pot like this.

Timmy Murphy is back on board and his quiet style ought to suit the Dynaformer gelding, who is available at 5/2 with Paddy Power this morning.

Saturday’s selections:

3:05 Newbury Strong Suit (9/4)

4:15 Perth Cause Of Causes (5/2)
