Paul Ferguson has two selections for us today. Countrywide Flame in the 3.20 (Ches) and Ashdan in the 3.30 (Donc). Compare odds and bet.
The mighty Frankel won the Rossington Hall Conditions Stakes at Doncaster two years ago and Prince Khalid Abdulla’s silks can be carried to success in the same contest this afternoon by Ashdan (3:30) who looked most promising when winning at Newmarket on debut.
The Dansili colt ran on well in the closing stages to beat Mutazamen (won both starts since) and he holds entries in a brace of Group 1s next month, the Dewhurst back at Newmarket and the Racing Post Trophy here on the Town Moor.
A full-brother to Sense Of Joy, he can take this en route to one of those bigger assignments and, in doing so, give John Gosden and William Buick a timely boost as they bid for a third straight St Leger tomorrow. The selection was available at 7/4 with Paddy Power on Thursday evening.
Ten minutes earlier Countrywide Flame (3:20) returns to action at Chester and should relish the prevailing conditions, as there is sure to be plenty of juice in the ground.
The Triumph Hurdle winner hasn’t been sighted since finishing runner-up to Grumeti in the Grade 1 Anniversary 4YO Hurdle at Aintree in April, but returns to the Flat on a fair mark of 84.
A winner on soft ground at Redcar when last seen on the level last October, the four-year-old may well need to pick up a penalty to get into next month’s Cesarewitch and victory here would tee him up nicely for a crack at the big Newmarket prize.
John Quinn’s dual-purpose performer was available at 11/4 on Thursday evening, also with Paddy Power.
Friday’s selections:
3:20 Chester Countrywide Flame
3:30 Doncaster Ashdan
