Paul Ferguson has another selection for us on Thursday; The Queen’s horse Galleon in the 4.40 at Haydock. Compare odds and bet.
After getting off the mark in a 1m4f maiden at Catterick last month Galleon (4:40) appeals as the type to land a nice middle-distance handicap in the closing stages of the season and he is worth siding with on his handicap debut at Haydock on Thursday.
The Queen’s three-year-old ran slightly in snatches last time but really got going up the home straight and gave the distinct impression there was more to come once sent to a more galloping track like this.
The form of his maiden success was franked when the runner-up scored at Hamilton and Sir Michael Stoute’s Galileo colt might well have been given a chance by the handicapper with an opening mark of 86.
In receipt of a weight-for-age allowance, he can be the third three-year-old in as many years to win the Betfred King’s Regiment Cup and the 5/1 on offer with Paddy Power early on Wednesday evening seemed more than reasonable. Expect him to go off much shorter and, while he is bred to be better over slightly further, he’s one to follow in the closing months of the Flat season.
