The Students Day At Gowran Park 2013 – Tuesday April 9th Maiden Hurdle is arguably the most interesting race of the day on Thursday, with two potentially useful novices clashing in the shape of Mozoltov and Sizing Gold.
The former has the better bumper form, having won at Thurles and Limerick before chasing home Champagne Fever in the Grade 1 at Punchestown. He also finished runner-up to the smart Clonbanan Lad at Naas in February and, with testing ground not a problem, he is likely to open up a short price favourite.
Willie Mullins’ six-year-old could easily get off the mark first time up but, at the likely prices and with hurdling experience under his belt, a chance is taken on Sizing Gold (2:05) who ran a race full of promise behind the useful Seefood on his hurdling debut before chasing home the potentially top-class Don Cossack at Navan.
Henry De Bromhead’s massive five-year-old jumped really well last time and that could give him an advantage here. The trip shouldn’t be an issue and, with the stable in such good form (treble on Sunday), he might be worth taking the favourite on with.
