Cheltenham double pays 11/1

Paul Ferguson has two selections from Cheltenham for us on Friday; Broadbackbobat 12:15 and Melodic Rendezvous at 15:40. Compare odds and bet.

Nicky Henderson took Cheltenham’s opening Shloer Novices’ Chase last year with Solix and can repeat the trick this afternoon with Broadbackbob (12:15) who made a pleasing debut over fences at Plumpton last month.
A very easy winner, the seven-year-old was a smart novice hurdler last term before injury ended his season in late January and is expected to develop in to an equally smart novice over fences this time around.

The selection opened up at 11/10 with Stan James on Friday morning and that seems about right, with Super Duty the most likely danger in receipt of 5lbs.

The concluding novices’ hurdle looks a pretty deep race, but Melodic Rendezvous (3:40) was the best of these in bumpers and didn’t do much wrong when runner-up to Mr Mole on his debut over timber.

The winner may have let the form down since, but the third has won and Jeremy Scott’s six-year-old split hurdles winners Champagne Fever and Mozoltov (won yesterday in Ireland) in a Grade 1 at the Punchestown Festival.

The impressive Chepstow winner handles soft ground and will appreciate a test at this trip, so with conditions looking right he is worth supporting at 5/1 (bet365) in a competitive looking affair.

Friday’s selections:
12:15 Cheltenham: Broadbackbob (11/10 Stan James)
3:40 Cheltenham: Melodic Rendezvous (5/1 bet365)
