Unique De Cotte 13/8 @ Kelso

Paul Ferguson has one selection for us on Thursday; Unique De Cotte in the Kelso 3.10. Compare odds and bet.

If Kelso passes a 7:30am inspection, there are some interesting sorts on show on Thursday, none more so than the unexposed novice hurdler Duke Of Navan who was a winner for us at the track last month.

The problem is today that Nicky Richards’ five-year-old steps out of novice company in the BetVictor Morebattle Hurdle and has to race against the useful Any Given Day off level weights, despite being rated 17lbs inferior to Donald McCain’s grey.

Duke Of Navan could easily lose and still enhance his growing reputation here, especially as his trainer states he’s all speed who wants good ground, while he steps up to 2m2f on soft ground here.

Poole Master is another to note (selected here on Monday before Plumpton was abandoned) in the opening novice chase and, while the fact he receives 7lbs from his two opponents is a plus, the step back in trip isn’t ideal, so the day’s selection is his stable-mate Unique De Cotte (3:10) in the Harry Hill Novices’ Hurdle.

David Pipe’s five-year-old was two from two in France (won a bumper and a hurdle, in which he impressed me on video) and he ran a sound race on his British debut when third at Ffos Las on Welsh Champion Hurdle day.

Easy in the market, the five-year-old made eye-catching late progress under Andrew Tinkler and AP McCoy takes over in the saddle today.  Still engaged in both the Supreme and the Neptune at Cheltenham, he has to concede 10lbs to a couple of useful juveniles in Calculated Risk and Totalize but he looks up to the task, especially if this turns in to a stamina test.

Thursday’s selection:

3:10 Kelso                  Unique De Cotte
