Formerly a smart juvenile hurdler, Runswick Royal (4:25) appreciated the step up to this sort of trip when winning Kelso’s Premier Chase on his penultimate start and Ann Hamilton’s six-year-old is fancied to go well in Sunday’s Perth Gold Cup.
Runner-up to the smart Royal Regatta at Doncaster and a close-up fourth in a decent novices’ handicap at Haydock earlier in the campaign, he was most recently seen falling at the last at Ayr on Scottish Grand National day. Coming back for more when hampered by the game winner Puffin Billy, he had made a mistake earlier up the home straight and will need to fence more slickly here, but he has the class to go close off a mark of 146, despite his big weight.
