Fergie’s Royal Ascot trio

Paul Ferguson has three selections for us on Tuesday; The Gurkha in the 16:20, Mokarris 16:05 and Penglai Pavilion 17:00 all at Royal Ascot. Compare odds and bet.

The highlight on the opening day of this year’s Royal meeting is, without doubt, the clash of the three Guineas’  winners in the St James’s Palace Stakes.

Awtaad and Galileo Gold have the stronger form in the book, but there was no denying the visual impression created by THE GURKHA (4:20) in France and he is given the nod.

I would expect him to ease in the betting at some stage this morning, due to the competitiveness of the race, and he can provide Aidan O’Brien with an eighth win in the race since 2000.

Earlier on the card, O’Brien saddles the exciting Caravaggio in the Coventry Stakes, another race in which he has a fantastic recent record.

He is sure to go well, but I was impressed with MOKARRIS (3:05) when winning at Haydock on debut and he is worth an each-way interest at the odds.

Simon Crisford’s colt coped with ease in the ground when scoring with a fair bit in hand and deserves to have a crack at this level.

Later on PENGLAI PAVILION (5:00) is of interest in the Ascot Stakes.

A former classy performer for Andre Fabre, he made up into a useful novice hurdler last term and might well outrun his odds on debut for Charlie Appleby.

A strong traveller, he should appreciate the likely strong pace and won’t have any problem with the ground.

Tuesday’s selections:
3:05 Royal Ascot – Mokarris 9/1 BetVictor
4:20 Royal Ascot – The Gurkha 11/8 StanJames
5:00 Royal Ascot – Penglai Pavilion 25/1 Bet365
