The Old Firm rivalry is set to intensify further this season with Celtic confirmed as travelling to Ibrox on Hogmanay and similarly set to face Rangers in the semi-final of the League Cup at Hampden Park. The Hoops dominated the Old Firm derby at Parkhead, beating Mark Warburton’s side 5-1 earlier this month, and are now 11/10 favourites with BetVictor for the League Cup and 2/5 to beat Rangers and book a place in the final.
Brendan Rodgers’ side were put firmly in their place at Barcelona, losing 7-0 to the Catalan giants in Spain last Tuesday, and similarly disappointed when held to a 2-2 draw at the Caledonian Stadium last Sunday. No disrespect to Inverness but the Hoops really ought to be winning such fixtures comfortably and punters are likely to be well-backed as 2/15 favourites when hosting Kilmarnock at Parkhead; the visitors 20/1 with BetVictor to cause a shock and leave with all three points, and the draw 13/2.
League Cup prices from BetVictor
Aberdeen 7/4 (from 4s)
Rangers are similarly odds-on, and likewise far from straightforward, as 6/4 favourites when travelling to Pittodrie tomorrow afternoon; Aberdeen 9/5 underdogs despite home advantage, and the draw 23/10 with BetVictor. The Dons were handed the plumb semi-final tie with Montrose in the League Cup earlier in the week and were trimmed to 7/4 from 4s with BetVictor to be lifting silverware aloft in the spring and 1/3 favourites to better Morton and reach the final.
I think there will be plenty of goals at Pittodrie, with Rangers’ trio of strikers Joe Garner, Kenny Miller and Martyn Waghorn all fancied to create plenty of chances in the final third. The Gers continue to struggle at the back however, and I am very keen on the both teams to score bet at 8/11 with BetVictor. Adam Rooney has netted 20+ goals in back-to-back campaigns for the Dons and appeals at both 9/2 to break the deadlock tomorrow afternoon and 6/4 with BetVictor to net anytime against the Gers.
Arsenal are without a win in their last nine PL games against Chelsea and, amazingly, have failed to score in their last six league games against their west London rivals. The Gunners have had four players see red in their last five games against the Blues and it is 9/4 with BetVictor there is a sending off at the Emirates.
Diego Costa has scored five in five in the PL this term and the Spanish international is 11/2 to score first and 8/5 to maintain his excellent recent goalscoring record. The Blues striker is a shade of odds on at 20/21 to be shown a yellow card and 13/2 to get his retaliation in first and be the first player carded.
Chelsea are out to 10/1 to regain the Premier League title after they became the latest side to succumb to an improving Liverpool last weekend and they are 85/40 to get back to winning ways with Arsenal favourites at 29/20 and the draw at 13/5. The Gunners are looking for their fourth win on the spin in the league but this is a real test of their own title credentials; the Gunners are still 12/1 for the PL despite nine points out of nine in recent weeks.
Antonio Conte will be the 12th Chelsea manager Arsene Wenger has gone head-to-head with in the Premier League which says much about both clubs. Some suggest Wenger will finally abdicate his position at the Emirates at the end of the season and Eddie Howe is our 6/1 market leader to be the next Gunners’ boss irrespective of the timescale. I personally fancy a 1-1 draw, and a rare goal for Arsenal against the Blues, which is 13/2 at BetVictor.
The bet of the weekend is our enhanced treble of 11/2 for BetVictor Brand Ambassador Michael Owen’s treble to land again; Liverpool (H Hull), Spurs (A Boro) and Palace (A Sunderland).
