I’ll be at Newmarket’s evening card where I can pass a favourable word on about Charlies Hills’ well-bred colt Wafy (6.35) fancied to make a winning debut in the 7f Maiden under Jim Crowley. The well-bred colt boasts entries in group races towards the back-end of the campaign and, out of the multiple Group 1 winning mare Ghanaati, carries high expectations for connections.

Crowley partners the hat-trick seeking Seduce Me for trainer Karl Burke in the Fillies’ Handicap over the straight mile. The daughter of Dutch Art has won on soft ground at first Newbury and then Epsom and is a deserved favourite under a penalty.

Nevertheless, she is now 14lb higher at the weights and preference lies instead with Mark Johnston’s Titi Makfi (7.35) who has been just as progressive since returning from a break in the spring. The daughter of Makfi was narrowly beaten last week at Glorious Goodwood but relishes soft ground and runs again from an unrevised mark. She can go under better under the excellent James Doyle.

Another fancied to relish this evening’s forecast soft ground is Ghinia (7.05) who runs for the in-form yard of Pam Sly. The Mastercraftsman filly disappointed last time out on ground faster than ideal at Leicester, but had previously gone close in placed efforts at Sandown and Lingfield. She remains on a career-low mark and can give likely favourite Swilly Sunset a race in pursuit of the four-timer.

At Haydock, Kashmiri Sunset (6.15) looked a transformed animal last month at Ayr, returning from an absence of over 8 months by making a winning debut for the Ian Jardine yard, and is a confident selection to follow-up from just a pound higher mark. The selection was a winning hurdler for former trainer Gordon Elliott however, prior to that was rated 80 on the level with Ed De Giles and should near that mark with success under Paul Hanagan this evening.

Exhort (6.45) should complete a quick-fire double for Hanagan in the 7f Maiden for trainer Richard Fahey. The well-bred filly boasts a pedigree that should relish soft ground and after a promising debut last month at Doncaster, staying on well to finish second, and a confident selection to shed the maiden tag at the second time of asking.

Hanagan and Fahey combine with Shazzab (7.15) in the 7f Nursery, who was something of an unlucky loser last time out at Carlisle. She travelled well on her first attempt over 7f, but was hampered when coming with a run late home, and lost all chance thereafter. From the plumb draw in stall two she can reward each-way support under the two-time Champion Jockey.

At Musselburgh, Golden Jeffrey (5.00) looks potentially chucked-in on his handicap debut, with the dual-bumper winner well-treated from an opening mark of 66 in the finale. The 4yo gelding joined the Ian Jardine yard after winning an Ayr bumper at the second time of asking for former handler ,Mark Johnston, and has been unsuited by his initial three starts on the flat. He is bred to relish the step up in trip and will take all the beating in the 2m Handicap under 7lb claimer Jamie Gormley,
