ABOLITIONIST (2.05) is the one to beat in the popular William Hill Supporting Greatwood Veterans’ Handicap Chase at Newbury. Following his third to Our Duke in the Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse last April, Abolitionist went on to make a winning UK debut for Dr Richard Newland, coming 10 lengths clear over hurdles at Aintree in November. The handicapper has shown admirable The Last Samuri some leniency by dropping him 4lb and the top weight should run his usual honest race.

WAR SOUND (2.40) seems to reserve his best performances for a flat, galloping track so he has to be of each-way interest in the William Hill Supporting Greatwood Gold Cup.

Philip Hobbs’ ten-year-old had the speed to land the 2015 Swinton Hurdle at Haydock and quickened up well to land a competitive handicap chase at Aintree in November. Cheltenham’s undulating track would not have suited ideally but War Sound still ran with credit when fourth in last year’s Close Brothers’ novice handicap chase.

WHO’S MY JOCKEY (1.50) kicks off some excellent action at Doncaster and he must be on the premises if repeating his close third to Erick Le Rouge at Kempton on Boxing Day. The winner has since gone on to complete a four-timer and Who’s My Jockey wears cheek-pieces for the first time.

DANSE IDOL (3.00) travelled up strongly but couldn’t contain strong stayer Queenohearts on soft ground at Sandown but she can gain compensation in the mares’ novices’ hurdle. The track was riding quicker when Danse Idol whipped subsequent scorer Printing Dollars at Wincanton in early December. Papagana was less than a length behind Danse Idol at Sandown, so is clearly a threat.

ROCKY’S TREASURE (3.35) finished a laboured third to Ok Corral at Warwick but his previous visit to Doncaster resulted in a 17 lengths victory. He has no easy task under top weight in the 888Sport Grimthorpe Handicap Chase, with useful Dingo Dollar looking to put behind him a poor run here in the Sky Bet Chase in late January.
