The Britannia Summer National is the highlight on a cracking card at Uttoxeter on Sunday one of the highlights of the season at the Staffordshire track.

Keenan’s Future (5.20) was an impressive winner at Aintree earlier in the month, having been unfortunate at Stratford when a horse jumped across him on his previous start, and he is a confident selection in what promises to be a terrific race.

Connections were reported to be considering a tilt at the Foxhunters’ at Cheltenham next March, but the horse will not be eligible if successful or indeed placed on Sunday. He appeared not to stay the near 4m trip at Perth back in April and jockey Paddy Brennan may have found the key to the horse at Aintree. An 8lb rise in the weights is fair and I would be disappointed if he didn’t give us a bold show.

For most of his career Dom D’Orgeval has been labelled a soft ground plodder, but he showed he could cope with decent ground at Haydock back in April and he looks as if he has been laid out for the event by the excellent Nick Williams. He represents the danger.

Raised 9lbs for that success he remains well treated on his best form, and although he has winning form on soft ground he wouldn’t wish the ground to deteriorate too much for the gelding who is likely to be ridden, for the first time, by James Reveley.

This time last year Franklino (2.45), whisper it, was considered Alan King’s Triumph Hurdle horse! Twelve months on and the French import is still trying to break his duck at what will be the eighth time of asking on Sunday. He was too free and failed to get home over a couple of furlongs further last time, but this trip looks ideal and he can finally lose his maiden tag over hurdles.

The Irish Derby from the Curragh is Sunday’s flat highlight and Her Majesty’s Carlton House(3.50) can reverse Epsom running with Treasure Beach who finished a place in front of the selection in the Derby. It is well documented that the Queen’s colt had an interrupted preparation before the classic and he can get back to winning ways in Ireland although Aidan O’Brien has won the last five renewals of his home classic and Treasure Beach will be a tough nut to crack.
