Fergie’s Ascot tips – Day 3

Paul Ferguson has four selections for us on Thursday; Alive Alive Oh (3.05), Remote (5.00), Estimate (3.45) and Cape Peron (4.25) all at Ascot. Compare odds and bet.

Day three at Royal Ascot offers the best day from a punting perspective so far, with several interesting runners on an intriguing six-race card.

The Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes looks a cracker with Oaks third The Lark the filly with the strongest piece of form on offer, but Epsom form is often best taken on here and Irish raider Alive Alive Oh (3:05) looked a serious prospect when winning at Navan last time and can complete the hat-trick for Tommy Stack.

The daughter of Duke Of Marmalade looked a certain Group winner that evening and, with her stable in great form (3 winners from past 8 runners), she can take this under Fran Berry.  She was available at 11/4 with Paddy Power last night.

At bigger odds Riposte is a filly capable of making her mark in pattern company having really impressed with the way she moved last time, but plenty more is required this afternoon.

More Epsom Classic form is on offer later on when Chopin (7th in the Derby) takes his chance in the Group 3 Tercentenary Stakes, where Dante third Indian Chief is another who boasts strong Group race form.

However, that pair are taken on with the rapidly improving Remote (5:00) who won a Newbury maiden on reappearance in May before bolting up from a subsequent Listed winner at Doncaster over a mile.

John Gosden’s Dansili colt is back up to 1m2f this afternoon and ought to relish the conditions.  An exciting and most progressive sort, he has already proven popular in the market over the past couple of days and was a best price 7/2 with Hills last night.

The feature of the week, the Gold Cup, looks wide open this year, but Sir Michael Stoute’s Estimate (3:45) is a course specialist who ought to relish the step up to 2m4f and looks sure to run a big race.

At 6/1 overnight and with Bet365offering 4 places to ¼ odds, the Monsun filly, who won the Queen’s Vase here last year and the Sagaro Stakes at this track in May, looks worthy of each-way support.

The Britannia Stakes is another wide-open affair and it is not a surprise to see Wentworth head the betting on the back of an unlucky looking third over an inadequate 6f at Goodwood recently.

Richard Hannon and Richard Hughes have endured a frustrating week to date, but this Acclamation colt looks sure to go well provided the rain stays away and I wouldn’t put anyone off splitting their stake with the main selection Cape Peron (4:25) who looked an obvious type for this when hacking up at Doncaster last time.

An impressive winner of a decent Newbury maiden the time before, Henry Candy’s Beat Hollow gelding came from last to first on the bridle to score emphatically last time and, despite a lofty mark of 100, he looks sure to relish a strongly run race such as this.  Paddy Power are offering ¼ odds to 6 places and at 7/1 he’s worth a punt.

Elsewhere on the card, Number One London can go well in the concluding King George V Stakes, but he remains a maiden and this looks a good renewal, while Coach House has looked good to date and has to be shortlist material in the opening Albany Stakes, but he faces several unknown quantities this afternoon.

Thursday’s selections:

3:05 Royal Ascot       Alive Alive Oh (7/2 Coral)

3:45 Royal Ascot       Estimate (7/1 William Hill)

4:25 Royal Ascot      Cape Peron (7/1 BetVictor) – Wentworth (5/1)

5:00 Royal Ascot       Remote (7/2 William Hill)
