Hamilton stage the first of the six ITV Sunday series this afternoon with a juvenile maiden and six valuable and competitive handicaps. All seven races are due to be shown on ITV4. Conditions were described as good to soft at the time of writing.
In the extended mile handicap JUMP THE GUN (4.48) can add to his impressive course record although he is making his seasonal reappearance and has no great history of going well fresh.
Iain Jardine’s 5-y-old was slowly away but was a facile winner over C&D back in June and is only 4lbs higher in the weights this afternoon. He finished third in two other starts here last season, and it would be no surprise if Jardine had him primed to go first time out given the prizemoney on offer.
Recommendation: Jump The Gun EW 4.48 Hamilton
The best racing on offer comes from Leopardstown and in their Group 3 Derby Trial I hope to see DUKE OF SESSA (4.35) put behind a slightly disappointing reappearance when third in the Ballysax over C&D last month.
The selection was a bit keen on his reappearance, but he should be a bit less fresh this afternoon. Falcon Eight ran well enough for Dermot Weld in the Chester Cup but the yard have been a bit quiet of late and a draw out on the wing in stall seven is less than ideal.
It almost goes without saying that Aidan O’Brien has the market leader and Stone Age may have been a maiden after five starts as a juvenile, but he was campaigned like a good horse, and he was a facile winner at Navan on his seasonal reappearance. Ryan Moore has never ridden as well as he has in the last week, and he rode his peers to sleep on about a handful of occasions over the three days at Chester.
Recommendation; Duke Of Sessa 4.35 Leopardstown
At Plumpton Blame The Game looks very well treated reverting to fences having scored over hurdles here last month from a 9lbs higher mark. He has failed to finish in the frame in five previous chase starts, however, and preference is for Charlie Longs don’s HOOT AT MIDNIGHT (5.00).
The stable had a welcome winner earlier in the week and this mare won a better race than today’s at Fontwell at the beginning of November. She has been off the track since disappointing at Lingfield later in the month, but she is only 4lbs higher than when scoring on her penultimate start.
Recommendation: Hoot At Midnight 5.00 Plumpton
There is a valuable 2m handicap at Ludlow and I hope to see SOFIA’S ROCK (3.40) run a big race from the front for Dan and Harry Skelton.
The selection likes to lead and is unlikely to get an uncontested lead with Chasamax and the filly Aliomaana in the field, but the selection finished runner up in a better race at Kempton last time and can race off the same mark. As long as he doesn’t get embroiled in a duel for the lead, he looks sure to run a big race. This will be the selection’s first run at Ludlow and a sharp right-handed track is ideal.
Recommendation: Sofia’s Rock 3.40 Ludlow
