GO BEARS GO (3.10) can edge out principal market rival El Caballo in the Group 2 Cazoo Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock.

David Loughnane’s three-year-old landed the Group 2 Railway Stakes at the Curragh last June and proved he had trained on over the winter by scoring on his return to action at Ascot at the end of April. El Caballo has racked up an impressive sequence of victories since his close debut defeat and Karl Burke’s colt is preferred to another serial winner, Flaming Rib, the conqueror of useful King’s Lynn at Chester’s May meeting.

MIGHTY ULYSSES (2.35) should be progressive enough to defy top weight in the Cazoo Silver Bowl Handicap. John Gosden’s colt landed the odds in great style at Newmarket last Friday and can take the measure of Chester scorer Outgate and lightly-weighted Irish raider Mister Wilson. Spirit Catcher and Dirtyoldtown are closely matched on last month’s Musselburgh form but Mighty Ulysses looks the one to be with on handicap bow.

There is some excellent sport at Goodwood where STORMY ATLANTIC (2.15) is fancied to repeat last year’s success in the Festival Stakes. The track was riding soft 12 months ago so any rain on the Sussex Downs would be welcomed by connections. Victory Chime had re-opposing West End Charmer a length away in third when winning over course and distance last September but is 3lb worse off here.

Ralph Beckett’s OMAN (2.50) looks the answer to the 1m 6f handicap on the same card. The four-year-old beat Spirit Mixer over this distance at Salisbury at the beginning of this month and the runner-up whizzed in by six lengths at Chelmsford City on Thursday evening. Hughie Morrison has his string in fine fettle and saddles fancied duo Surrey Gold and Ravens Ark, raised 3lb for his Lingfield success a fortnight ago.

Martyn Meade’s Lone Eagle will go off at short odds to land the William Hill Tapster Stakes, a 1m 4f Listed contest. Lone Eagle made Hurricane Lane pull out all the stops when the pair pulled clear in last season’s Irish Derby at the Curragh but has been off the track for 301 days. THIRD REALM (3.25) may be the one to capitalise on any ring-rustiness. Roger Varian’s four-year-old should strip sharper for his comeback third to Al Aasy at Ascot a fortnight ago and a repeat of his third to Johnny Murtagh’s useful Ottoman Emperor over course and distance in last July’s Group 3 Gordon Stakes can see Third Realm involved in the finish.
