Four to follow on Tuesday

Good ground forecast at Nottingham for today’s eight-race card. There are some beautifully bred newcomers in the opener and the winner is likely to be Royal Ascot bound next month.

YOGOOD’s (2.40) record over two miles on turf reads 1-2-1-2 including a C&D success from a 7lbs lower mark back in July. The selection flew home at Doncaster in a slowly run race last time and he would want a strong gallop to chase although that is not guaranteed given the lack of confirmed frontrunners in the field. With that in mind I don’t want to see Jamie Spencer too far back on the selection.

Kalamity Kitty is chasing a four-timer for Ed De Giles and looks sure to run well while Gyenyame is lightly raced and looks ready for a step up to two miles for the first time. A market move for the bottom weight would be worth noting.

Recommendation: Yogood 2.40 Nottingham

At Wolverhampton and Mostallim has a poor draw to overcome in the extended 7f handicap. I hope Alistair Rawlinson has to use up plenty of petrol from stall eleven on this frontrunner and helps set the race up for PATONTHEBACK (2.50) who gets the vote for David O’Meara and Jason Watson.

The each way recommendation is a course winner over six furlongs, but he has improved since stepping up in distance on the all-weather of late, has a cracking draw in stall three and should have the race run to suit. At the time of writing Watson has ridden three winners for O’Meara from his last seven mounts for the stable and it is clearly a partnership to watch out for going forward.

Recommendation: Patonetheback EW 2.50 Wolverhampton

At Huntingdon this evening, LADY RESET (5.47) was no match for Aiming High at Doncaster on Saturday evening, but we highlighted how well handicapped the Simcock-trained filly was. I hope to see David Pipe’s mare return to winning ways reverting to hurdles this evening.

The selection has been busy of late having finished second over timber at Kempton at the beginning of the month, but she has backed up good recent runs in the past and connections must feel they are not going to the well once too often.

Recommendation: Lady Reset 5.47 Huntingdon

Dermot Weld looks to have found an excellent opportunity for Port Sunlight in the finale at Killarney but, as long as the ground is genuinely good, I hope to see MY MATE MOZZIE (8.30) break his duck on the flat.

The selection was beaten a short head in a Grade 1 novice hurdle earlier in the season when he would have won had he not missed out the last. He was beaten 10L by State Man in the County Hurdle at Cheltenham when last seen back in March but that was a very good effort on ground slightly softer than ideal.

He again finished runner up at Balinrobe on his sole start on the level when beaten half a length by Phoenix Cowboy who is now rated 96. Note his main rival this evening, Port Sunlight, is rated 94 and she escapes a penalty as her sole win was gained before January 2021. This looks an excellent piece of placing by Weld, but I give My Mate Mozzie the vote – as long as conditions are as described – good.

Recommendation: My Mate Mozzie 8.30 Killarney
