Four to follow on Wednesday

The highlight of Brighton’s season is their three-day festival which starts today, and they have been extensively watering to maintain good to firm ground.

KELAPA may have only won a neck in a similar 0-50 contest at Yarmouth last time, but she always looked in control under Jack Mitchell and she can follow up in a similar contest under Harry Davies who is chasing the apprentice title.

That was just her second start over ten furlongs, she ran well on her sole previous start at Brighton – not beaten far having been constantly denied a run – and has improved for the application of a tongue-tie in recent starts.

Newmarket trainer Joseph Parr has pulled up few trees at present and a few of his have run below par in recent weeks. That said he had an inmate run a cracker at Newmarket at the weekend.

Recommendation: 2.40 Brighton – Kelapa

SILVER KITTEN bounced back to something like her best form when runner up at Epsom on Thursday and she has been dropped 10lbs in the handicap since the start of the season.

The Johnstons’ three-year-old has only won one of her eighteen career starts but there are similarities between Epsom and Brighton and the selection has run well in defeat here in the past. It may be significant that the filly is entered in three races later in the week including two back here on Friday.

Porterinthejungle is a three-time C&D winner and he has been plummeting down the weights since the start of the season but ran her best race for some time when fourth here last time. The mare has been dropped a couple more pounds since her last start and Stefano Cherchi takes off another 3lbs this afternoon. She represents a big danger

Recommendation: 4.10 Brighton – Silver Kitten

Corinthia Knight has won twice over C&D in recent weeks and is only 7lbs higher than for the first over those victories under Hollie Doyle back in June. The 7-y-old has now won five of his seven starts at Pontefract and is still very well treated given it was only just over 12 months ago that he scored over C&D from a stone higher mark. Well drawn in stall three, Doyle reunited, stable in form but he is short enough in the betting at 5/2 given this is a much better contest than his two recent successes.

There is plenty of pace in the race – especially drawn low – and I hope they set the race up for COMMANDMENT who got going too late when third at York last time having scored on good to soft ground – not good as per official description – over C&D on his penultimate start.

PJ McDonald takes over on the each way recommendation and will be the seventh different pilot Ed Dunlop’s filly has had in eight races. She should have the race run to suit and, if on the premises coming to the furlong pole, will be tough to beat in a terrific sprint handicap.

Recommendation: 5.20 Pontefract – Commandment EW

There is a cracking card at Kempton this evening and the finale is a very competitive two-mile handicap with a number of inform hold up stayers although there is no guaranteed pace in the race.

MURAU improved for the step up to this trip last time – as his breeding suggested he would – when scoring over C&D under William Buick from a 4lbs lower mark. Buick – who missed his riding engagements Sunday & Monday – retains the ride this evening and, after just six career starts, he remains open to further progress.

He was slowly away when scoring last time and I wouldn’t want to see him too far back if the race gets tactical, but he represents an inform yard, is well berthed in stall three and looks sure to run a big race.

Recommendation: 8.50 Kempton – Murau
