Five to follow on Saturday

Alan Thomson, the former Racing Editor at the Daily Record, puts up five racing tips at Doncaster, Newbury, Newcastle and Wolverhampton on Saturday. View selections below.

LIBERTY LANE (3.35) has the profile of an upwardly mobile four-year-old and can figure at the business end in the William Hill Lincoln Handicap at Doncaster.

The son of Teofilo goes well when the mud is flying, so testing underfoot conditions on Town Moor should prove no barrier to a big run. Karl Burke’s four-year-old boasts winning course form at last year’s St Leger fixture when taking the scalp of Royal Hunt Cup runner-up Sonny Liston.

Monday’s gambled-on Irish Lincolnshire winner Chazzesmee bids for an historic double and rates a lightly raced improver.

Last year’s one-two, Migration and ante-post market leader Awaal, are another couple coming under punters’ scrutiny, while Silvestre De Sousa is re-united with his 2022 winner Johan, another soft ground specialist.

On an excellent Newbury jumps card, in-form HELTENHAM (2.40) will be included in many multiple bets as he bids to cement his recent comfortable course and distance victory when lining up in the 2m 4f Get Best Odds At BetVictor Handicap Chase.

Dan Skelton’s seven-year-old had re-opposing Gustavian and Sir Psycho held in third and fourth places respectively and there is no obvious reason why that pair should reverse placings.

Seventeen mares are declared for the 2m 4f BetVictor ‘National Hunt’ Novices’ Hurdle and Alan King’s KAY TARA TARA (3.15) finds herself 11lb better off with recent Ayr conqueror El Elefante.

That may be enough for my selection to turnaround places with Lucinda Russell’s raider and with most firms offering five places each-way, Kay Tara Tara is reasonably priced around 10-1.

Nigel Twiston-Davies sent out Smiling Getaway to score at Warwick and Ludlow on soft ground earlier in the season before she was put in her place behind Springtime Promise in Grade 2 company at Sandown in mid-February. This looks a bit easier.

On a competitive all-weather card at Newcastle, prolific winner THE CRAFTYMASTER (4.55) is fancied in the opening two-mile Find More Big Deals At Betuk Handicap.

Tony Carroll’s gelding had his bid for a remarkable seventh straight victory thwarted by Churchella at Southwell 11 days ago and a further 3lb rise makes life more awkward. However, his proven stamina can win the day.

Real Terms scored over 1m 4f at Southwell last Saturday and will have her backers, along with bottom weight Zivaniya, with Hollie Doyle getting the leg up on Hugo Palmer’s recent Kempton winner.

My best bet at Wolverhampton is reserved for recent runaway winner PEGASUS OF HARRY (5.45) in the 1m 4f handicap.

Marco Botti’s filly has been hammered with a 10lb rise after bolting up by more than six lengths over course and distance 19 days ago but that burden is reduced by useful apprentice Connor Planas claiming a 3lb allowance.

Her main rival appears to be another filly in the shape of Amy Murphy’s Mamalouka, winner of three of her last four outings over shorter distances.

Tally Ho
