It’s Trials Day at Cheltenham, where there ought to be plenty of festival clues on offer, with no fewer than nine races on a mammoth card. The day’s first selection, however, comes from Fairyhouse, where Ashroe Diamond (2:11) is taken to get the better of the unbeaten Halka du Tabert. Willie Mullins has won six of the past 10 renewals of this Grade 3 Solerina Mares Novice Hurdle – including with subsequent festival winners Limini and Laurina – and his Grade 2 bumper winner has kept good company against the geldings of late. Her form against her own sex reads 1411 and the longer trip shouldn’t be a problem. With Paul Townend at Cheltenham to ride Energumene, Danny Mullins takes the mount.
Domestically, Go Dante (2:32) is fancied to make a belated winning return at Uttoxeter. Off the track for 395 days, he was last seen contesting the Grade 1 Challow Novices’ Hurdle, having earlier attempted to give Tweed Skirt (now rated 136) 12lbs at Ascot. Potentially well-treated on an opening mark of 128, he has gone well when fresh in the past (won a bumper on debut and won on his first outing over hurdles) and Olly Murphy has his horses in good form, with No Risk des Flos successful at Wetherby on Thursday.
Saturday’s selections:
2:11 Fairyhouse – Ashroe Diamond; 11/10 Coral
2:32 Uttoxeter – Go Dante; 9/4 Coral
