Alan Thomson, the former Racing Editor at the Daily Record, puts up five tips at Kelso, Newbury and Lingfield. View selections below.
Chris Gordon is a rare visitor to Kelso so the fact he sends FORWARD PLAN (3.35) on the long trip north to contest the 3m 2f BetVictor Handicap Chase is worth noting.
The improving seven-year-old has won three of his last four outings, drawing eight lengths clear on his latest start at Southwell. The assessor has awarded him a whopping 10lb rise but Forward Plan meets some exposed rivals.
Sandy Thomson’s Doyen Breed hasn’t set the heather alight following a wind operation but his latest second to Minella Drama was more promising. John McConnell’s Clonguile is a proven dour stayer so needs considering as well.
JANE DU BERLAIS (3.00) edged out re-opposing Bonttay when they clashed at Lingfield in early December and precious little separates the pair in the valuable BetVictor-sponsored Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle Final.
Ryan Potter’s Jane Du Berlais has since finished third at Wetherby, while Bonttay landed the odds next time at Exeter.
DESTINED TO SHINE (4.25) makes plenty of each-way appeal in the two-mile handicap chase at Newbury.
Kerry Lee’s gelding returned from a long absence to chase home favourite Richmond Lake at Wetherby in mid-January and scored on heavy ground at Chepstow last February.
Joe Tizzard’s Le Ligerien is on a hat-trick following victories on sound surfaces at Plumpton and Hereford. He may be adaptable ground-wise. Not Available has been in double-winning form for Matt Sheppard as well and probably rates more of a threat.
Gary Moore’s SAUSALITO (1.45) has established himself as something of an all-weather specialist and seeks his fifth straight victory in the opening 1m 4f handicap at Lingfield.
The son of Frankel takes a slight rise in class but showed a good attitude when overcoming some trouble in running to win under Billy Loughnane over course and distance three weeks ago.
Some speedy types lock horns in the Huge Daily Boosts At Betuk Handicap over five furlongs and dual course winner TONE THE BARONE (3.30) is nicely drawn in stall two.
The Stuart Williams-trained gelding lost out narrowly to re-opposing Kiwano in a three-runner contest here earlier this month and is 2lb better off.
Tally Ho
