Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Saturday; Field Of Gold in the 3.40 at Curragh and Master Builder 3.45 at Goodwood. | Free Bets |
The Irish 2,000 Guineas takes centre stage on Saturday and although I am a big fan of Cosmic Year, it is hard to see past Field Of Gold (3:40) who can carry the same Juddmonte silks to success under new rider, Colin Keane. John & Thady Gosden’s grey looked a much-improved performer when winning the Craven on reappearance and really ought to have won the Guineas at Newmarket, getting going too late and unable to run down Ruling Court in the closing stages. The long straight of the Curragh should suit the Kingman colt, who can gain a first Group 1 success. Keane won the race in 2020 aboard Siskin and Field Of Gold will be looking to provide the travelling Brits with a third win in the race in the space of four years, following on from Native Trail and Rosallion.
Domestically, I am keen to see Master Builder (3:45) back up in distance to 1m6f at Goodwood, although the form of the David Menuisier stable is a concern. The four-year-old grey was progressive last year (didn’t run at two) and made a pleasing return to action when only fading late on at Epsom. The third has come out of that race and won at Chester recently and his form figures over this trip read 313. His first attempt at this distance came in the hugely competitive Melrose Handicap at York before he won impressively at Haydock. He won on his second start as a three-year-old and despite those fears around the form of the stable, the Masterscraftsman gelding looks worthy of each-way support (hopefully, he will be available at an each-way price) having been dropped 1lb for that reappearance.
