Paul Ferguson has two selections on Saturday; Hillstar in the Newbury 3.15 & Biographer in the Newmarket 2.20. Compare odds and bet.
Despite conceding upwards of 8lbs to all 15 rivals Biographer (2:20) is taken to make a winning return at Newmarket on Saturday, in the 1m6f handicap. Racing off a mark of 101, David Lanigan’s four-year-old made up in to a smart stayer at the end of last season and an entry in the Ascot Gold Cup indicates he has improved from three to four.
Sir Graham Wade and Guarantee have failed to advertise his form so far this season (both disappointed at York yesterday) but this son of Montjeu looked a late-maturing type that could come in to his own this season.
Mount Athos showed 12 months ago that top-weight can be carried to success in this event and, with each-way terms to 4 places, Ted Durcan’s mount looks worth supporting with Paddy Power at 11/2.
Sir Michael Stoute had a cracking day yesterday and he is fancied to land the London Gold Cup at Newbury with Hillstar (3:15) despite a 9lb rise in the weights, having finished runner-up on his return at Newmarket.
The winner of that contest, Soviet Rock, defied a 9lb rise himself when beating one of today’s rivals Salutation (a winner himself since) back at HQ and the Danehill Dancer colt, who holds a Royal Ascot entry, is taken to recoup losses from the Craven meeting. Ryan Moore’s mount opened up 13/8 with both Paddy Power and Bet365 on Friday evening.
Saturday’s selections:
2:20 Newmarket Biographer
3:15 Newbury Hillstar
