Saturday double pays 6/1

Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Saturday including Timesremembered in the Aintree 16:50. Compare odds and bet.

This time last year Timesremembered (4:50) was winning the Persian War at Chepstow and Emma Lavelle’s six-year-old is fancied to make a winning debut over fences at Aintree on Saturday.

The Akbar gelding went on to finish runner-up in another Grade 2 under his penalty, before filling the same spot in the Grade 1 Challow Hurdle at Newbury. After flopping at Doncaster, the selection ran a sound race when sixth to Whisper in the Coral Cup, off a mark of 143.

This looks a warm race to start off in, with the two penalised runners boasting a 100% record over fences, whilst Horizontal Speed is arguably the pick of the remaining newcomers. Philip Hobbs’ runner looked a chaser in waiting when winning over the brush hurdles at Haydock, but Timesremembered is preferred.

Hobbs saddles an even more exciting recruit to fences down at Chepstow, in the shape of Sausalito Sunrise (2:25) who is also taken to make a winning debut.

Like Timesremembered, the Gold Well gelding finished well behind in the River Don in January, after which he finished sixth in the Albert Bartlett, before signing off his novice campaign with impressive successes at Bangor and Perth during April.

The six-year-old winning Irish pointer has the look of a chaser and, despite this again appearing to be a strong contest, he is taken to score before going on to bigger things.
This time Hobbs can get one over on Lavelle, who saddles the most likely danger in the shape of Mosspark, though Sego Success is always respected. The latter has a bit to find on hurdles form and might well have been better off starting in a novices’ handicap, but he looks like another useful recruit to fences.

Later on the card, this year’s Persian War looks a strong event, with Son Du Berlais bidding to provide ‘AP’ with a winner on his return to the saddle. The French recruit looks a worthy favourite, but this looks competitive so is a race to watch.

Another competitive heat is the valuable Silver Trophy, in which McCoy will be aboard another warm order, one time classy bumper performer Regal Encore. The six-year-old remains potentially well handicapped, but at the prices (each-way appeal) be sure to note fellow second season hurdlers Aubusson and Vieux Lion Rouge, both of who would appreciate any overnight rain.

Saturday’s selections:
2:25 Chepstow Sausalito Sunrise
4:50 Aintree Timesremembered
