Ones For The Notebook

Paul Ferguson gives us two hot picks for the future as the weather decimates the jumps cards on Tuesday.

There seems no let up in the weather at present and, as I’m not one to back too many horses on the all-weather, I may well vary my daily column over the next few days.

Fingers crossed the snow will not last too long, but in the meantime I will provide you with a couple of horses each day that have recently caught my eye and that are worth putting in your notebook (unless there is something that really takes my fancy on the sand).

I’ll begin this series with a couple of horses that were bought at the ‘Future NH Stars’ Doncaster Bloodstock Sale after racing at Newbury on Saturday.

Bygones In Brid (A King)
Anthony Bromley of Highflyer Bloodstocks shelled out £100,000 for this Musselburgh bumper winner on behalf of an existing owner in the Alan King yard.

An 8-length winner for Karen McLintock on debut 8 days before the sale, the son of Old Vic put daylight between himself and some well-touted rivals in the home straight and certainly looked one to follow.
Only a four-year-old, he looks to have a bright future.

Zama Zama (N J Henderson)
Bromley also helped secure this three-year-old, who cost £85,000 and was purchased for Michael Buckley, who was on hand having seen his Finian’s Rainbow win impressively on Thursday and his Spirit River fall when in front the following day.
The Sakhee colt maybe bred for the Flat, but he was a hugely impressive winner of a junior bumper at Warwick just 10 days prior to the sale for trainer Kevin Ryan.

It will be interesting to see which route Nicky Henderson now takes with the youngster, who is another with a bright future ahead of him.

Paul Ferguson’s Jumpers To Follow 2010-11 is available hot off the press from the 1st October for just £9.99
