Paul Ferguson heads up to Ayr to get the week off to a winning start with one selection; Lady Bluesky in the 15.25. Compare odds.
After witnessing Big Buck’s get within one of Sir Ken’s record of 16 successive victories on Saturday, it was hard to think that could be bettered yesterday but it was, as Hurricane Fly made a stunning return to action in the Irish Champion Hurdle.
Willie Mullins’s star is now a best price Evens to retain his Champion Hurdle crown in March, so those who took the advice on 3 January are now sitting pretty with the 11/4 locked away. Assuming he gets there in one piece, he will take the world of beating.
On to today’s action and the most exciting horse on show is without doubt Montbazon, who could yet develop in to a leading contender for the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham or the Top Novices’ Hurdle at Aintree.
The in-form Alan King looks to have found him a very nice opportunity to open his account over timber so he is not a betting proposition today, but pay close attention to his performance in Plumpton’s opener with the future in mind.
Assuming Ayr passes an early morning inspection Lady Bluesky (3:25) looks worthy of support in the BetVictor.Com Handicap Hurdle.
Alistair Whillans’ grey relishes the mud and is a mare open to further improvement over hurdles. A winner of three of her last four over timber, the daughter of Cloudings was a winner on soft ground at Kelso last month and could be up to defying a 7lb rise under optimum conditions.
Monday’s selection:
3:25 Ayr Lady Bluesky (3/1 Paddy Power / Hills)
