A single ticket held by one lucky punter landed a tasty £451,943 in Saturday’s totescoop6 thanks to Portrait King’s victory at Newcastle.
There was an exciting climax to Saturday’s totescoop6 as the well-backed Portrait King collared Posh Bird on the run-in to land the Betfred Eider at Newcastle.
Only two tickets remained heading into the final leg and the bet was always going to be won heading to the last as Posh Bird jumped to the front ahead of the eventual winner.
However, Denis O’Regan conjured up an extra effort from the favourite to land the spoils for but there was heartbreak for the other ticket holder who will be left wondering what might have been as Posh Bird finished second.
The winners are a syndicate who have won the bet before and they now have a chance to go for a further £352,227 in the bonus fund next weekend when attention turns to the pre-Cheltenham action at Newbury and Doncaster.
“This afternoon’s totescoop6 went right to the wire and it produced a exciting climax with both horses covered fighting out a fantastic finish to the Betfred Eider,” said totepool spokesman George Primarolo.
A total of £500,802 was bet into the pool and there were 4,495 winners of the place fund, each of whom picks up £22.20.
There were also 16 winning units of the huge totejackpot rollover at Newcastle. A rollover of £401,844 from Sandown Park meant there was a pool of £872,912 and the winning dividend was £38,735.40 to a £1 stake.
