Betfred have declared the 2011/12 title race over and, for a third time, have paid out early on Man United to win the Premier League.
The latest payout has set back Betfred Chairman Fred Done just over half a million pounds. All outright bets on Manchester United will be settled as winners and all multiples containing United will have that part settled as a win.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s men have overcome a City challenge to lead by 5 points at the top and Fred is convinced the title is going to Stretford.
Diehard United fan Fred remarked, “Even with the big derby to come a five point lead is just too much for City, so I’m letting all United punters have their dough early to the tune of just over half a million quid!”
Fred entered the record books when he paid out on United to win the title back in March 1998, only for Arsenal to win the league by a solitary point!
Recalling that momentous decision, Fred said, “Back in 1998 Fergie told me to never pay out early ever again, but Sir Alex need not worry, I’m convinced United are past the post for a record twentieth Premier League title.”
